William Eggleston

July 27, 1939

No. 12

William Eggleston is widely credited with helping color photography to be recognized as a legitimate artistic medium. His large-format prints monumentalize everyday subjects where everything is equally important and every detail deserves deliberate attention. He was awarded The Royal Photographic Society's Special 150th Anniversary Medal and Honorary Fellowship (HonFRPS) in recognition of a sustained, significant contribution to the art of photography in 2003. In 2013 he was awarded the Outstanding Contribution to Photography Award at the Sony World Photography Awards.
