Ralph Gibson

Ralph Gibson is a well respected photographer known for his erotic subject matter and constrasting imagery. Gibson studied photography while in the US Navy. After attending the San Francisco Art Institute, he worked as an assistant to Robert Frank and Dorothea Lange. Gibson is a great advocate of the Leica camera. Since the start of his career he has completed more than 40 books and his work has been displayed in more than 150 venues around the world. Gibson received 3 fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, A Guggenheim Fellowship, the Leica Medal of Excellence, and the Silver Plumb Award. He is a Commandeur de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, holds honorary doctorates from the University of Maryland and Ohio Wesleyan University, and, in 2007, earned The Lucie Award for Fine Art Photography.
