Bettina Rheims is well known for her erotic images of women. Rheims worked as a model before getting involved in photography herself in 1978. Her earliest 1981series "Portraits" featured striptease artists and acrobats posing. In 1990, she photographed androgynous youths for the series "Modern Lovers". Rheims has photographed celebrities and fashion for publications such as Marie Claire, Elle and L’Officie. She has shot campaigns for Chanel and Lancôme, among others. She was awarded the Grand Prix de la Photographie of the City of Paris in 1994. Her work has been featured at the Musée de l´Elysée in Lausanne, Switzerland, the Musée d´Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, and the Städel Museum in Frankfurt, Germany.
